This is my new little niece, Lucy.

I got to meet her for the 1st time over the Thanksgiving holiday and I couldn't resist getting her nakie and shooting her rolls and soft baby skin.

She's so cuddly and such a good baby.

I love the age too!

She was rolling all over, so curious about the camera, and so playful.

Just thought I'd share her sweetness with you too.

Baby Cara. 4 weeks, 5 lbs. | Bay Area Newborn Photography

I can't think of a better way to go out on maternity leave than to spend an hour and a half with this beautiful newborn baby. Baby Cara.

Oh, she is so special and so tiny.

She's still just 5 lbs, gaining quickly though, and 4 weeks old.

We had to be sure to keep her warm enough. She was only really happy swaddled in mommy's arms, which is so sweet and makes perfect sense to me.

She was so aware that I was there. All she wanted to do was fall asleep, but the click of my camera would startle her every time. Sweet little thing.

I really enjoyed talking to her mom and dad about what newborn life is like.

I remembered!!

This got me really excited to have my own. Just 4 more weeks (if I make it that long).

Oh goodness, this girl gets cuter and cuter every time I see her!

I've known her since she practically had no hair! She and Ava go back a few years (hehe! they've only been alive for three)! Anyway, really, more than the kids connect at this age, the mom's do, and I really love her mom, Aimee. She's very real and open. From the first time I met her I felt really comfortable around her and, of course, I love the Italian in them!

I was so happy they asked me to do a holiday shoot with them! They have a new addition, almost a year old, Dario, who is handsome as can be!

He was happy to have his photo taken.

Mr. Smiley.

But it's not always fun for all. His brother, Reece, wasn't too thrilled to have a big black box in his face, and I can't blame him. After taking our time with him, such an important part of the process, I got some smiles out of Reece too. My favorite photo ended up being his 'halfway there' smile in black and white. I think he has such a sweet face and those dark eyes are to die for.

It was fun to capture them this fall season.

This was one of my favorite shoots. The preciousness of these moments were almost tangible and these two children are so beautiful, each in their own unique way. I was in bliss photographing them, and so thankful to their mama for making this shoot so unique. I usually ask parents to bring something special that makes their kid their kid because when you look back you want to remember what life was all about at that moment, and I want to capture that for you.

Amanda, you went above and beyond and I'm so glad you did.

As you can see Ansley (left) and Emerson (right) like to read. We could barely get them to look up. They were so engrossed in their stories. Emerson's shares a favorite story with my Ava,

Alice in Wonderland.

And then we set up (a regular event for them) in the grass, a Tea Party.

My heart overflows when I see these. I think it's the combination of the outfits choices and the tea set, but mostly how sweet their interactions were with each other. Ansley is one lucky little sister.

Oh, this beautiful child!

Xander is one of the cutest boys I've ever known.

An Italian little love bug.

I met him one year ago just before his 1st birthday and now he's 2! He just keeps getting cuter.

I was so happy to see him again and hear his mom speak in Italian (my favorite language).

We had a nice hour together and I couldn't have been happier when I saw him walk up to me in a pinstriped short suit holding a red balloon. Thank you, Darianna! That made my day!

What an honor it was to be at this wedding!

Brendy and I met when I finally had the courage to reach out and let someone I didn't know take care of my baby. Ava was 16 months old, and two years later, Brendy is part of our family. She has been a gift in our lives, full of love, and the purest sweetness. We love her and were thrilled to hear she had met the man she wanted to marry, and even more thrilled to be asked to be there.

Brendy and Drew had a small courthouse wedding. It was all said and done in 15 minutes! :)

Brendy had her best friend, mom and dad, and Drew had his mom and dad, that's it.

sweet & simple.

It was a little tense getting there. Traffic stopped on 880 N and we were all stuck in it (in a panic).

I got there before they did.

What a relief to get there just in time and see each other.

It's their wedding day!

I love the looks on their faces.

so genuine.

...all paper work signed and...

She was cautious of me, which I can appreciate. My Ava is very much the same of people she doesn't know.

Once she warmed up we had fun in the Rose Garden together.

Baby Julia & Big Brother Phineas | Bay Area Newborn Photography

Remember Phineas?

Well he's a big brother now to 6 week old baby Julia.

2 beautiful children meant to be siblings.

Julia is still so new to the household that, to be truthful, Phineas isn't all that interested, nor should he be. she can't read him Moonthief yet, or play with his piano and airplanes. While Julia nursed I got to play with this smiley boy. He carried his favorite book everywhere we went and was glad to have me follow him.

Then Miss Julia came out to play with us. Well, not really, mama's milk put her right back out :)

As it should be when you're 6 weeks old.

We laid her in the shade, all swaddled up on a, homemade just for her, quilt and watched her sleep.

It's a peaceful, serene thing to get to do.

Luckily she opened her blue eyes to see who was moving her around and we got to see how bright they are.

Welcome baby Julia!

A nice ending to our shoot. Phineas, upon request, came over to kiss his new sister.

A Few days after the shoot this little family moved to North Carolina.

Happy travels to NC, Julia & Phineas.

100th Birthday Shoot | Bay Area Family Photography

This amazing man, Oscar, turned 100 on August 2, 2011.

I can't tell you in words how "with it" he is. You'd have to meet him in person to understand.

He's amazing. Still full of laughter, fun, a goofy spirit, and love for his family.

In honor of him, his family organized a shoot to capture everyone together with their

"Lolo" (Filipino for Grandpa).

Muth & Cormia Full Family Shoot | Bay Area Family Photography

I feel like I've been away for so long. We took some great trips this summer as a family, which kept me away from shooting, but was great for our family. We introduced Ava to Disneyland!... and lost ourselves in the that land, in a good way :)

Then Ava and I took 11 days to reconnect with my family in Truro, Massachusetts, one of the most beautiful places in the world, in my opinion. We really enjoyed our month of July and this was just the perfect way to get back in the swing of things for me.

I met up with my great friend, Jill, and her family (her mom, dad, brother, sister-in-law and nieces) on their land in Gilroy to do a full family shoot with them. Cousin's were visiting from Florida and Grandma & Grandpa were proud to show them off. So we spent the morning on the farm land capturing all of their family. It was awesome. Here are some of my favorite photos from their shoot.

Little Miss Z is turning 3! | Los Gatos Children's Photography

This is Zoe.

She's turning 3 this month, so her mama asked if we could capture her in photos at this stage.

Such a great idea!

I photographed her last November and it's amazing how she's changed since then. Her little face has stretched out and her hair has grown long, but the essence of who she is is still the same, which I love.

She's a happy girl, as you can see, with the sweetest little face.

Right before I headed down to southern California with the fam for our 1st summer vacation I got to pop in to meet sweet Eloise, just 10 days old & nursing like a champ! Isn't she precious?

It was great to visit with them, always such a treat to peer in on a family adjusting to having a new member. It was really relaxing at their house and we took our time. Eloise did great!

Big sister Charlotte played outside with her daddy while we shot. She helped him wash the dog and cooled off under the hose, peering on on us once in a while through the window.

Then we invited her in to take pictures with her sister. She was darling with her. giving her kisses and smiling at her. It was tough for me to choose which photos to post. There are so many that melt my heart.

Dyer family Shoot | Bay Area Family Photographer

What a gift it was to me to wake up early on the 18th and drive up to Pacifica, CA to meet this family. the views up 280 were so breathtaking I could barely keep my eyes on the road. The sun was slowly rising, making all the mountains golden and the fog was banked in between them. I felt like I could see the foliage on the hills more clearly than I ever had before. It was awesome, in the truest sense of the word.

When I got there, Marybeth met me at Rockaway Beach in Pacifica. It was amazing to breathe in the crisp salty sea air. I was so happy to be there and the whole family came in good spirits :)

This shoot was intended to capture the whole family, all the little branches of it and all of it together.

We did it!

This is Marybeth and her husband, Steve, who raised their three kids (who are grown now) there in Pacifica.

Julie is very close to her boyfriend of many years, Bryce. We got them practicing for an engagement shoot ;)

I love this couple!

I love this girl, first and foremost, and was thrilled to meet the man she's going to marry!

We had a blast on this shoot! Just a quick one to get them some photos for their Save The Date cards, but full of laughter, silliness and l.o.v.e.

What I loved about this shoot was that I got to witness how sweet they are together and how fresh the love is between them. It's a special time in life; to meet the one you're going to marry.

It was a gift to me that they asked me to be a part of preserving it.

Now, we wait for the big day at the courthouse in July!

You know I'll be there :)

We shot at a spot in Cupertino where they had their first date, the kind of date I love, where you do nothing, but hang out in some unimportant place, and get to know each other... and play in the fountains.

I was excited to get Beth's email telling me that Christopher had turned one!

It's amazing to think that I called her a year ago and asked her if I could barge into her house to photograph him as a newborn.

It's been a total joy to watch this family grow and to have the privilege to document it.

I met up with these sweethearts on Saturday afternoon at the farm.

The light was so pretty, melting into the mountains as we walked around.

I was immediately captured by Taylor's beauty. Every expression she had, I loved. She looks like an island girl. Beautiful skin, deep brown eyes, and long dark hair. 3 and 1/2 and already striking.

Her little brother, Jacob is equally easy of the eyes!!

His skin was so soft and smooth. It took all my containment not to smother him with kisses.

This is their half brother, Tristan. He was such a great sport and so easy going about the things I asked him to do. Any photographer can appreciate that kind of willingness and good spirit.

(I had them getting all kinds of scratches with bugs bouncing off them in the tall grasses)

I loved meeting this family! Thank you to Clare for finding me and asking me to photograph your beautiful kids. You are blessed and am I!

A warm, sunny afternoon for just me and Ava.

I took her to Hidden Villa Farm to see the spring animals and soak in the warmth of the sun.

I love my little feeler, my little thinker.

I love her hair gently blowing in the breeze.

I love that she found a spot in the grass and sat there for 20 minutes talking to herself, feeling the grass, and picking poppy's (I had no idea that is illegal. oops! It'll never happen again. promise.)

And I love her pink "farkly clothes" (sparkly) and that she cries when they aren't clean.

We have Nana to thank for that :)

And lastly, I love who we ran into as we stood talking to the sheep. Baby Anna, Clare, and their Mom, my friend, Susan, plus Hannah and Emma. It was a nice surprise.

So glad to spend the day at the farm.

It was just the way it was meant to be.

From past posts, you know how near and dear this family is to my heart. I just love them. Pierson turned one on February 17th (where did that year go?!) and their family was blessed with their dream home out in the country, and they moved in 2 weeks ago. Pierson's 1 year shoot was a great excuse to get my tush down 101 and breathe in the fresh air and stomp through the mud with them :)! I'll just take a second to brag for them....they own 10 acres of land with a barn for horses and just miles of green grass and hills that over look the countryside (that's aside from their dream home)! It's stunning and inspiring to be out there.

We played on the property shooting and plunking Pierson down in the fresh overgrown green grass.
The color of the grass with the color of his eyes--well let's just say, that ain't man made ;)

I had a really nice morning this past Sunday hanging out with this family. First I fell in love with where they live, and then I fell in love with their 20 month old, Ty! I mean, he just can't get any sweeter --and that strawberry blond hair with dark eyes melts me! I couldn't stop clicking! Goodness!!

They knew just how to get Ty engaged. I haven't met a kid yet who's not grinning ear to ear when mom and dad fly them that high :)

She's half Croatian and just stunningly beautiful- so much so that when I first pursued photography and began to build my portfolio I chose her to shoot first. Her mom was so gracious about it. I can't even show you the photos from that day. They don't compare and barely capture how beautiful she is. I was so excited when her mom asked to schedule a shoot. I promised her these photos would be much better :) We had a great time walking trails in San Jose. I made them hike a little too! ;) It was worth it for this 1st shot.

Canary Foundation Luncheon with Kris Carr

I had no idea the day I had in store when I arrived at the Menlo Circus Club in Atherton, Ca on this beautiful day, February 2, 2011. I knew I was going to be with good people, generously contributing to raise money for the foundation's sole cause, early detection of cancer. I even ran into a great friend at the event, but I didn't know who was the guest of honor and being interviewed by Janice Edwards of Bay Area Vista. It was non other than Kris Carr! To be honest, I didn't really know who she was, I mean, it didn't "click" "till later. I know, sad. After shooting detail shots for a while I needed a water break, grabbed a glass of pellegrino, and headed to the room where I had my gear and purse. She was in there. Just the two of us. I said "water break!" She said "that's a good idea" and I walked out! Hello? Cass? Are you aware, or so focused on your work, maybe, that you failed to connect and say hi?! Geez! No matter. That was enough of a "hi" for now :)

To put it simply, she is awesome. I wish everyone I know and love could have heard what she had to say. Actually you can, just hit up her website: http://crazysexylife.com/

She is a crazy sexy cancer survivor and she did it through her diet: what she eats: with her mouth, heart and mind. She was there for an interview and book signing. Her most popular, making New York Times Best Seller list Crazy Sexy Diet. If you don't have a copy, GET ONE! It can only change your life for the better. 1 in 3 women will have cancer in this country. That's a lot! She was there supporting early detection, but emphasizing prevention. I heard her loud and clear. I'm proud and amazed to share that the next day I took Ava to Whole Foods Market, ordered a "basic green" smoothie, which is kale, frozen mango and coconut water. Ava stole it from me, drank more than half, and I couldn't help but say out loud to onlookers "my daughter is drinking kale!". No joke, it was yummy! We've made it every day since Wednesday and daddy loves green smoothies too!

Anyway, back to the event. Ashley Hurd from Eventful Events put on this event. The detail always makes me smile when I see it because I see beautiful photographs :) She is talented when it comes to an event coordinator. I'm glad to know her :)

Each place setting had one of the three books Kris has recently released. Everyone got to take one home, even me! :)

Sam Gambhir, director of The Molecular Imaging Program at Stanford University, announced an exciting new test that can be done to detect cancer early and make a huge difference in treatment and survival. It was amazing to see the images he presented.

This past Sunday I spent an hour with this handsome 14 month old. He is just so stinkin' cute, I can't stand it. Those eyes, those cheeks! I couldn't stop shooting. He was so happy to be put down in the middle of piles of enormous dry leaves and crawl and explore to his hearts desire. Makes for a pretty good shoot :)

I genuinely really really liked them and wished we could spend more time talking, but I didn't want to miss a beat with Kasper. Thompson Family Shoot

I was so happy to meet this family a couple weeks ago up at Sanborn. Though is was freezing, there was some sun, and every one of them was smiling and happy to be there. Peter & Bria's children, Sadie & Dalia, are just so sweet and darling. Sadie was a so silly, but also a little concerned with my closeness and my camera. I loved that look on her face though. It embodies her experience and wonder. She's 2 and Dalia around 5 months. So smiley!! I had a great time with them.

Another shoot among these beautiful yellow flowers! I truly love kneeling in them to peek through at cuties like Ava, and watching her find her way through them and pick them. Adorable. Ava's mama, Anna, is expecting a boy, so we met here to capture her beauty as she's pregnant with him. She was glowing; so beautiful! Such a cute little family about to grow cuter :)

I really love Lana. I met her when our babies were actually babies, and felt connected to her immediately. Things were calm at her house and she was inviting and warm, as was her sweet husband, Ed. I'm glad to know them.

It took us a while to pull this shoot together with all the rain this winter, but we finally made it happen at the Saratoga library orchards. (I can't get enough of those yellow flowers :) Ben was in good spirits. Such a good lookin' little guy, and sweet as can be!

Meet Pepe.

This sweet little pooch is getting old and struggling through some health difficulties. I recently had a great shoot with this beautiful family in honor of Yasmine's birthday. Since then, mom realized that they might lose their Pepe soon and have no pictures of the girls with him. Mom and Dad want their girls to remember him if not in their mind's eye, then in a photograph. So, we met up at a local park near their home and Nike (mom) even pulled her oldest out of school. Pepe was shivering and nervous, but warmed up. We got some nice shots to remember him someday. For today he's just getting a lot of love, which is mostly what keeps us all alive anyway.

I can't think of a better way to start off the new year than with this shoot! Erin & Steve Crain: a truly beautiful couple and expecting their first baby later this month. It's a BOY!! And doesn't she carry him well?! She looks stunning.

It was a pleasure to document this unique time in their lives. And special for me to get to know them better as a couple. Just so easy to hang out with. We warmed up after the shoot at the Los Gatos Roasting Company over a tall glass of hot chocolate and got lost in conversation about photography. Robitaille Family shoot

These are the Robitaille boys, Connor, 3 and Ethan, 11 months. Such sweet brothers! This shoot was arranged by Sarah Aslan as a Christmas gift to her sister's family. What an awesome idea!! After weeks of rain, this little family flew up from LA to be greeted by the sun! It was cold outside, but the sun made for some beautiful photographs and one inspired photographer! I was so happy to be outside and spending time with this beautiful family! They were in good spirits after a flight with 2 kids and no naps :)

So glad for these last minute couple shots. They are my favorites! It's always a good idea. always.

These two were so happy to cuddle up with each other. Lots of love there. Makes me smile.

This shoot was planned for Saturday and it happened on Saturday, but I got a call on Thursday from Sandy and she thought the baby may come that day!! She had been up all night with contractions and in the morning nothing. A little tease, I guess :) We made other arrangements to shoot sooner, but things weren't progressing, so we kept it Saturday. Baby #2 is a mystery baby. No one knows whether it's a boy or girl yet! I admire the couples that can pull that off. I'm too impatient and too much of a planner to hold out. But I imagine the wonder gives you that much more incentive to get through the labor!

Saturday was raining. There was a break in the rain for our shoot, but it was too muddy to trample through some field with the family in tow, so we made due (no pun intended) at her home, in the bay window. It was just beautiful.

Liliana was there with her smiles and excitement to be playing in the window!

Muth Famliy Shoot

I saw this spot at my Friday afternoon shoot and thought I have to come back here. So I called Jill and told her we were gonna switch it up! Man, I am so glad we did. This orchard was AMAZING! I walked away from that shoot so pumped up with energy! With the combo of good people, warm sun, and yellow everywhere, how could you not?! It was beautiful.

I love Jill and her family. 3 years I've known them and my life is better for it. I have never been so grateful for someone in my life, aside from my Ava and Brad, than I am for Jill.

I admire the way she lives her life and I take what I learn from her into mine and whatta ya know? It's better. You could call that lucky, but I call it blessed, blessed, blessed!

So, it was more than my pleasure to get them some holiday images, and in turn, me some serious inspiration! :)

This "handsome family" is really the Hanson Family, also known as a huge part of my California family.

Talk about God working in my life without me even being aware of it at the time-- (that's usually how it works anyway)! We lived next door to each other for at least a year as "friendly neighbors". I had Ava and that was the first time they came into our apartment (to meet her). Then Hsiaolei got pregnant, had Kekoa, and everything changed. I didn't know it, but I had a wonderfully amazing friend living next to me that whole time and it took our children to figure that out. Bless their little hearts. Now, even if there were no children involved I know a woman I love with a warm heart who is genuine, and so real. That's the best kind of friend. So, at this point she has seen every emotion I have, everything from "I just started baking a cake and need eggs now!" to "I'm not the kind of mom I want to be today". We shared so much. And walked to this park together many times.

A month and a half ago we moved. So then we shared tears and memories of how our lives grew and changed in those little apartments and how we have to move forward. We don't share the same balcony anymore, but we love them just the same. I miss them terribly on the long days. No popping in for coffee in the morning, or a check in at night before the littles go to bed. But I can still call her up anytime and share just where I'm at. It's a relief. It feels like not as much is lost. A good friend is a good friend no matter the time that goes by or where you live in relation to each other.

So, enough about me and how much I miss them! Here is their holiday shoot: Hsiaolei, Scott & Kekoa Hanson:
